Palace Concerts presents a year-long programme of cultural entertainment set throughout the historic and much-loved Corinthia Palace. From the neoclassical grandeur of Villa Corinthia to the enchanting Secret Garden, our nostalgic poolside setting, and the supper-club energy of the Corinthia Ballroom, guests are invited to experience timeless music in Malta’s Original Hideaway.

Each concert is thoughtfully curated, bringing together leading Maltese musicians and international performers for a programme of chamber music, solo recitals and themed concerts. A remarkable season of unforgettable performances await, perfectly complemented by the fine gastronomy of Francesco Mazzei.

Dedicated to mothers, with love 

On Saturday 9 May, enjoy an evening of music and dining with a three-course dinner and a glass of prosecco on arrival.

This special Mother’s Day concert brings together six exceptional cellists for an evening of heartfelt musical expression. The cello, with its rich tone and deep emotional range, is the perfect instrument to honour the love and strength that mothers and motherly figures bring into our lives.

Performed by Ákos Kertész, Yaroslav Miklukho, Frank Camilleri, Desirée Calleja, Lucie Kuchařová, and Elia Moffa, the programme showcases the cello in all its colours, from the elegance of the classical repertoire to the charm of beloved melodies, film themes and iconic songs.

The result is an intimate yet uplifting concert, paired with a dinner by Francesco Mazzei and welcome drink on arrival, celebrating mothers through music and culinary artistry that speaks directly to the heart.

The Cellists

  • Ákos Kertész

    Ákos Kertész

    Ákos Kertész

    Ákos Kertész is Principal Cellist of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, having joined in 2012 and been appointed Principal in 2019. A graduate of the Liszt Academy and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, he has performed with leading international ensembles and is an active chamber musician.

  • Yaroslav Miklukho

    Yaroslav Miklukho

    Yaroslav Miklukho

    Yaroslav Miklukho trained in Ukraine and at the Kiev State Conservatory, later performing internationally including at Carnegie Hall. Since 2011, he has served as sub leader of the MPO cello section and teaches at the University of Malta.

  • Frank Camilleri

    Frank Camilleri

    Frank Camilleri

    Frank Camilleri joined the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006 and has performed with various European ensembles. A member of the Cordia String Quartet, he performs internationally and has recently recorded Kantilena with Britt Arend and Gillian Zammit.

  • Desirée Calleja

    Desirée Calleja

    Desirée Calleja

    Desirée Calleja, a graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire, is a full-time cellist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and former section leader of the Malta Youth Orchestra. An award-winning chamber musician, she has performed internationally and also taught at the Malta School of Music and directed the Sally Strings Ensemble.

  • Lucie Kuchařová

    Lucie Kuchařová

    Lucie Kuchařová

    Lucie Kuchařová studied cello across Europe before performing with major ensembles including the Radio Symphony Orchestra Bratislava and Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. She joined Orquestra do Norte in Portugal and became a member of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009, with performances at leading venues such as the Musikverein and Carnegie Hall.

  • Elia Moffa

    Elia Moffa

    Elia Moffa

    Elia Moffa is a cellist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, having trained at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Bologna Conservatory. He has performed with leading European ensembles and festivals, and is co-principal cellist with the Orchestra Fondazione “Luciano Pavarotti.”

Clarinetist Michael Cutajar performs celebrated works by Weber and Brahms.

 

6 December – Piano Recital
Piano recital by Gabrijel Cassar.

 

20 December – Christmas Extravaganza
A festive musical celebration for the holiday season.
