The Sun Lover’s Guide To The Most Secluded Beaches In Malta

Escape far from the madding crowd on one of Malta’s secret beaches

You go on holiday to relax and unwind. You’ve earned it. So why is it that every stretch of paradise you find is littered with hordes of sun burnt tourists? Retreat to the hidden corners and alcoves of this sun drenched isle to discover the most secluded beaches in Malta. From golden sandy coves to remote pebbled shores, our insider’s guide to the island has it covered.

St George's Bay

Corinthia St George’s Bay provides a haven of exquisite luxury for sun worshippers. Set on the edge of the sparkling St George’s Bay, this is the perfect spot for those wanting to soak up the Maltese sunshine in style, whether that means relaxing in the hotel’s private lido or exploring the warm waters of the Mediterranean. The hotel boasts its very own water sports and private yacht charter, so you can take to the ocean on jet skis or go parasailing round the bay. Guests are also invited to make use of the Apollo Day Spa’s luxurious relaxation therapies and beauty treatments at their leisure.

Imgiebah Bay

Between the unmarked stretch of golden sand and the gorgeous expanse of brilliant blue waters, it doesn’t get much closer to paradise than Imgiebah Bay. This tranquil cove is ideal for snorkelers and sunbathers, but access via a long and difficult road (combined with no facilities on the beach itself) has kept the tourists at bay; meaning Imgiebah remains one of the most beautiful secluded beaches in Malta. Strike it lucky, and you’ll have the entire place to yourself.

San Blas Bay

Hidden away on the Maltese island of Gozo, San Blas is still a relatively undiscovered beach retreat thanks to its remote location and steep hilly access. A handful of sun seekers make the journey here, attracted by the clear waters and burnt orange sands of this isolated beach spot. Thankfully, you’ll also be spared the attentions of the tourist touts found on nearby shores.

Ghajn Tuffieha

Despite its prime location beside the crowded and popular Golden Bay, Gajn Tuffieha remains enchantingly unspoiled as one of the most private and secluded beaches in Malta. Intrepid explorers are required to stumble down roughly 180 steps before they reach the deserted shores of this hidden cove, where a propitious formula of restricted access and strong currents have kept the secret well.

Fomm Ir-Rih Bay

Arguably the most isolated bay in Malta, Fomm ir-Rih can only be accessed via a steep path, which takes visitors around 15mins to navigate down to its rocky shores. The beach itself is pebbled and set against a backdrop of serrated cliffs that exposes the striking wilderness of the island. Go diving or snorkelling in the deep Mediterranean blue, or simply relax and enjoy the perfect tranquillity that has been preserved here.
