Bridal Designer Caroline Hili’s Malta Guide

Having cut her teeth in haute couture with fashion heavyweights Valentino and Giambattista Valli, Caroline Hili’s reputation as Malta’s leading fashion designer is well earned. Her flagship in the chic environs of Santa Venera is the island’s most illustrious bridal boutique, and it’s here that the well-heeled flock to commission tailored evening gowns and one-off pieces, as well as stunning hand-bead ed wedding outfits. Here, Caroline Hili shares what she loves about her home town and what inspires her exquisite designs.

You design bespoke bridal gowns. Where do you think is Malta’s most romantic setting for a wedding?
Definitely somewhere that’s out in the open countryside with distant sea views, and it has to be during spring time for the perfect weather. Picking a particular place is really difficult as there are so many ideal sites in Malta to choose from.

What does your perfect day off in Malta look like? 
I take my life day by day and appreciate every single one of them in Malta. What I would call an ideal day off for me is a day with no commitments and major plans, so that I can be completely free to do whatever I feel like in that particular moment.

What one uniquely Maltese thing could you not live without?
It has to be Gozo, my dear, sweet Gozo! The island’s friendly people and the sheer number of incredible sunny days that this tiny piece of paradise gets is spectacular, especially when compared to living in Paris or Milan.
