Colours of Lisbon: Street Art
Exploring the world-class visual statements to be found dotted throughout the city
Lisbon’s street art scene blossomed after the democratic revolution of 25th April, 1974, with political murals. Today, the genre has moved from the fringes to the forefront, making use of the open air canvases the city provides, and turning regular streets into open-air art museums.
The Portuguese capital has become known for having some of the best street art in the world, and some local artists like Vhils and Bordalo II have works displayed all over the world. Vhlis is known for carving faces on facades, while Bordalo II favours the approach of creating art from trash.
Street art tourism is one of the best ways to explore Lisbon, and you will find many different services curated by art galleries and artists, designed to take you round the multiple murals of the city and its surroundings.
