The Most Exciting London Restaurant Openings In 2018

London’s favourite Michelin-star chef returns on a grand scale and it looks set to be the year of the multi-concept dining space. Here’s where to dine in style in 2018

From a Shoreditch-based seafood grill inspired by the Basque Country to an ambitious 250-seat restaurant in Piccadilly, 2018 is set to be a stellar year for London restaurant openings. New developments all over the city mean plenty of new dining ventures and, luckily, some of the biggest names in the British food scene are involved. From trendy Hackney to elegant St James’s, here’s where to find London’s hottest new tables in 2018.



Returning to the same street that housed his pop-up, Chef Simon Rogan is back on London’s culinary map with the opening of Roganic, his new permanent restaurant. Fresh from his stint at Fera, Roganic will maintain Rogan’s commitment to outstanding seasonal produce (much of which is grown on his farm in the Lake District) to create visionary dishes that are brimming with flavour. Fans of the original pop-up will also be pleased to see that Oliver Marlow is reprising his role as Head Chef, along with General Manager James Foster.

Greyhound Café

With a cult following in Asia, The Greyhound Café opens its first European outpost in London in 2018. Opened first as a menswear boutique in Bangkok by Bhanu Inkawat, The Greyhound Café launched in Thailand as an eatery in 1998. Since then, it’s gained loyal fans thanks to its mix of chic, fashion forward décor and flavourful dishes. The London branch is located on Berners Street, and offers diners small and large plates, an impressively varied vegetarian menu and its signature dishes, such as the ‘Angry Pasta’ and Pork Knuckle Tod Krob. An ample drinks list includes plenty of healthy cocktails.

SUSHISAMBA Covent Garden

When SUSHISAMBA opened at the Heron Tower, it quickly became one of London’s buzziest restaurants, and now its second opening in Covent Garden looks set to do the same. The restaurant, which is known and loved for its vibrant fusion of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisines, is taking over the Opera Terrace at the centre of Covent Garden. Great for both cocktails and dining, it’s sure to be one of the coolest openings in 2018.

Gizzi Erskine At Mare St Market

Celebrity chef and queen of London’s foodie scene, Gizzi Erskine is finally setting up a permanent restaurant after numerous sell out pop-ups. Part of a multi-faceted warehouse project on Hackney’s trendy Mare Street, the 60-70 cover restaurant will offer diners a range of wood-fired and Rotisserie-style dishes on a menu that takes inspiration both from London and California. In addition to the restaurant, the space will also include a market selling locally made produce, a café, a florist and even a record shop. With a brunch menu that includes ‘bespoke’ egg options and a bottomless Bloody Mary bar, the restaurant looks set to be the ultimate weekend destination.

Cora Pearl

In 2017, a table at Kitty Fisher’s was one of London’s most coveted bookings, so the news that the Kitty Fischer’s team are opening a second venture is sure to delight food lovers. Located on lively Henrietta Street in Covent Garden, ex-Kitty Fisher’s Head Chef George Barson will take charge of the kitchen at Cora Pearl and the two-story eatery will seat up to 60 diners. With its neighbours including Balthazar, Frenchie and Henrietta by Ollie Dabbous, Cora Pearl is sure to be another shining star on London’s gastronomic map.

Madame Wong

Known for his wonderfully authentic and creative Chinese cooking, Andrew Wong’s first restaurant received its first Michelin star last year. Now, the talented chef is expanding his horizons with a new opening as part of the Bloomberg Arcade development in London’s financial district. Scheduled to open this spring, the restaurant will offer premium Chinese all day dining.

Opening: April 2018, Bloomberg Arcade, The City


Petersham Nurseries Covent Garden

After enjoying huge success at its original Richmond location, Petersham Nurseries has brought its winning combination of flowers, food and stylish furnishings to Covent Garden. Occupying a large space, appropriately known as Floral Court, the venue functions as a homeware shop, delicatessen, wine cellar and florist, as well as housing two restaurants. The Petersham is the venue’s signature restaurant and is scheduled to open this year. Overseen by Simon Whiteley, formerly of Coworth Park, its focus will be on slow food and it will offer a lunch, dinner and afternoon tea service. La Goccia is the second on-site restaurant, offering informal, all day dining with an Italian influence. Sip on an aperitivo or two as you enjoy sharing plates prepared in the wood burning oven and open grill.

Another skilled Kitty Fisher’s alumni, chef Tomos Parry is has gone solo in order to launch Brat, a seafood grill in Shoreditch. Positioned above (and backed by) much-loved Thai restaurant, Smoking Goat, Brat’s menu is influenced by the typical seafood restaurants of the Basque Country and Northern Spain. Standout dishes include whole turbot grilled over charcoal, while the wine list will offer a selection of Sherries and a generous array of wines chosen in collaboration with Keeling Andrew & Co (the fine wine importers founded by London wine bar, Noble Rot).

Opening: Spring 2018, Redchurch Street, Shoreditch


Formerly head chef at Yotam Ottolenghi’s hugely successful Nopi, Ramael Scully is branching out on his own to launch Scully. The restaurant will form part of the St. James’s redevelopment, and its menu will draw on Scully’s varied heritage; born in Malaysia, the chef spent his childhood in Sydney before working throughout the Middle East. Diners can expect a kitchen that’s stocked with British sustainable ingredients as well as Scully’s signature spice blends, pickles and ferments, and dishes bursting with bold flavours.

London’s food scene went into mourning in 2017 when chef Ollie Dabbous closed his Michelin star eponymous restaurant alongside its sister space, Barnyard. Fortunately, Dabbous is back on a grand scale and is set to open an impressive 250-seat space in Piccadilly, in collaboration with his business partner and mixologist extraordinaire Oskar Kinberg. Billed as a fine dining restaurant, the multi storey space overlooks Green Park and is a partnership between Dabbous, Kinberg and Hedonism Wines.
