The Best Things To Do In And Around Covent Garden With Kids

Your child-friendly Covent Garden guide

At first glance, the bustling hive of activity found on the streets of Covent Garden can be a little overwhelming, but we’ve teamed up with Louise Heard of Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop to reveal the unmissable places to visit on your family day out.

Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop

With something for children of all ages, a visit to the emporium that is Benjamin Pollock’s Toyshop, located directly above Covent Garden’s piazza, is a must. From theatrical shadow boxes to boardgames and gadgets, there’s plenty to keep them happy. After all, it is one of London’s best toy shops.

Royal Opera House

Sundays are family days at this iconic opera house and you can purchase tickets for performances, dress-up days and workshops all for kids. Then, when travelling without the kids, head back for drinks in the terrace bar for fantastic views across the beautiful market building.

London Transport Museum

Come rain or shine, a museum is always a safe bet when it comes to entertaining kids. Admission to the museum costs £16.50 for an adult, but this includes unlimited re-admission all year – and the best news is, under 17s go free. From interactive galleries to a dedicated play zone, they have really thought about children and how best to keep them enthralled.

The Lion King At Lyceum Theatre

As The Lion King musical celebrates 20 years at the Lyceum Theatre in 2019, there is no better time to go and see this legendary show. With amazing puppetry and inspiring animal costumes to help tell the story of Simba, this will be a night to remember.

Matilda The Musical At Cambridge Theatre

Adapted from the novel by one of Britain’s best loved authors, Roald Dahl, this award-winning production from the Royal Shakespeare Company is definitely worth a watch. The story is a family favourite and the incredible cast will have you leaping out of your seats with applause.

The Buskers

It won’t take long on your visit to Covent Garden to spot a busker – jugglers, magicians and even puppeteers come to piazza daily. Throw change into their hat if you like what you see and be sure to whoop and cheer enthusiastically if you are suitably impressed.

The Moomin Shop

Quite a niche find, but this store is a must for lovers of those Finnish characters – or anyone else that’s intrigued, of course. Pick up everything from a collectable mug through to a plush toy to mark your visit to this cartoon haven.

Milk Train Café

After all of that sightseeing fun, satisfy all of your sugar cravings in one go with ice-creams surrounded with candy floss at the Milk Train Café. If kids were to create a dream café menu, this would be it.
