When the summer arrives, there’s nothing better than laying on white, soft sand while listening to the sounds of the Atlantic Ocean. Right outside Lisbon or a little bit further away, these beaches have got sun-soaked days written all over them.

São João

This is the first beach when you arrive at Costa da Caparica coming from Trafaria and the one chosen by many families to enjoy fantastic sunny days. It has parking (paid), several restaurant and a lifeguard during summer. It is also a hit with ambitious surfers all year round.

Fonte Da Telha

Stand on the extensive stretch of sand of Praia da Fonte da Telha and soak up views of the impressive fossil cliff, which is an area of protected landscape due to its natural wealth. As well as those wishing to admire the view, this beach is popular with many surfers.

Praia Do Ribeiro Do Cavalo

Located in the municipality of Sesimbra, about 40km from Lisbon, this beach has a difficult access, forcing a path through the middle of the mountain, but it’s more than worth the effort. It is a calm beach which will feel like your own private island. Take a backpack with your daily essentials as there are no local amenities.

Portinho Da Arrábida

With its crystal-clear waters and bright white sand, this bay located in the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. With a great marine diversity, scuba-diving is highly recommended here.

Praia Da Comporta

Located about 120km south of Lisbon, the huge beach of Praia da Comporta is much sought after by holidaymakers due to its easy access. We suggest you take the ferry from Setúbal and enjoy the tour to get to know the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve as well.

São Pedro Do Estoril

Located on the Marginal Road that connects Lisbon to Cascais, the beach of São Pedro do Estoril is frequented mostly by locals. It is served by two restaurants all year round and is very close to the S. Pedro train station which allows for an easy train ride from Lisbon.
