Capital of Culture 2018
Valletta, along with all the localities of Malta and Gozo, has been named as European Capital of Culture for 2018.
Throughout the year, Valletta will be promoting cultural activities around the island with the aim of bringing local and international citizens together.
The Valletta 2018 Foundation is responsible for this project and has set out a very interesting and diverse selection of events, making 2018 is the best time to visit Malta.
Here are some of the highlights to come:
-Valletta International Baroque Festival (January)
-Malta Fashion Week (May)
-Malta International Arts Festival (July)
-Malta Jazz Festival (July)
-Opera Spanga – AIDA (in cooperation with Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, also Capital of Culture in 2018) (September)
Every year, the European Capitals of Culture initiative is designed to:
-Highlight the richness and diversity of cultures in Europe
-Celebrate the cultural features Europeans share
-Increase European citizens' sense of belonging to a common cultural area
-Foster the contribution of culture to the development of cities
