Karlovy Vary
Known as the jewel of the West Bohemian Spa Triangle, Karlovy Vary is the largest and most famous spa town in the Czech Republic. Founded by Charles IV in the 14th century after the discovery of its springs, the town is home to a giant spa that’s famous for its beautiful architecture. As well as performing classic spa treatments to relax and rejuvenate guests, the historic spa also offers curative and medicinal therapies for those suffering from a variety of health conditions.
Mariánské Lázně
Just beyond Karlovy Vary lies Mariánské Lázně, a spa town with about 40 mineral springs and sheltered by picturesque pavilions and colonnades. Some of the best-known springs are Ruloph Spring, Forest Spring and Ferdinand Spring – each of which is alleged to cure certain ailments. Ambrose Spring, for example, has particularly high levels of iron so is believed to treat conditions like anaemia, while the heavily mineralised Cross Spring – nicknamed “Salt” due to its salty taste – is said to help ease digestion.
Františkovy Lázně
The third point on the spa town triangle is Františkovy Lázně. While it may be the smallest, its neo-Classical colonnades and landscaped parks ensure it’s just as beautiful as its neighbours. Františkovy Lázně has an abundance of excellent natural healing resources, such as mud baths, mineral springs and carbonic baths – gaseous baths built on natural carbon dioxide springs.
