The impressive Jebel Aulia Dam provides a lake on the White Nile where locals enjoy sailing, fishing, swimming and boat life. The shores of the lake are a popular picnic and relaxation point for Khartoum residents and the ideal place to enjoy some authentic Sudanese delicacies. The lake is a regular hot spot for bird watching with a number of species, including Kentish Plovers, Ringed Plover, Kittlitz's Plover, Spur-winged lapwing, Ruff, Little Stint, Greenshank, Common Sandpiper and Ruddy Turnstone, making an appearance.
