Children’s Railway and Buda Hills

Truly unique excursion opportunities for the whole family in Budapest

The Buda Hills are right on our doorstep and make the perfect spot for a weekend picnic or even a backpacking tour. There are many designated tourist trails, which provide the ideal opportunity to get to know the area - one simply cannot get bored with the Buda Hills! There is so much to see and do, to climb (for the braver) or to gaze at (for those of a less adventurous spirit), that it is difficult to know where to start.
Hop on the Children’s Railway, one of Budapest’s transport wonders in the II and XII districts of the capital, and explore the sights by train. As its name suggests, it is operated by children, under the watchful guidance of adults, and there are stops at all the principal sights. Starting from the János Hill station it is just a short walk through the forest to one of the most popular sights in the Buda Hills: Erzsébet Lookout and Zugliget Chairlift situated on the highest point of the capital. Budakeszi Wildlife Park is located in a tranquil, protected valley tucked away in the Buda Hills, on the border of Budapest and the town of Budakeszi.
