Attractions

You can take your pick of attractions both in and around Khartoum, depending on how far you want to travel and how active you want to be. Nile cruises, mountaineering, scuba-diving, nomadic excursions and camel-riding abound for the more adventurous traveller and if it’s simple sightseeing that attracts you, the mysteries of Egypt, Cairo and the Sahara are just waiting to be uncovered.

Dinder National Park covers 2,500 square miles to the south east of Khartoum; along the Ethiopian border, and boasts lions, giraffes, leopards, antelopes and various exotic bird species. From December to April, three-day excursions to the park are available, mostly departing from Khartoum.

In the city itself, there are Botanical Gardens,  a fascinating Camel Market, a number of ancient mosques and churches, a stunning War Cemetery and the long-established Al Mogran Amusement Park to keep you occupied.

Tuti Island; an islet in the middle of the Blue Nile, boasts Khartoum’s finest stretch of beach and can be reached by ferry.
